The Tunisian national team said that their great achievement at the World Robotics Open Championship is the result of hard work, continuous training, experience and confidence, underscoring the importance of overcoming fear.

Celebrating the achievement at the association’s headquarters in Moknine, team members assured Al Jazeera that the coronation was no fluke but the result of continuous work, confidence, training and skill development. Student Adam Suleiman told Al Jazeera that becoming a world champion first starts with confidence and persistence, adding that “it’s important to persist and not listen to those who try to stop you.”

Among the winners was 13-year-old student Ayub Awain, who managed to win first place despite competing with older participants. Awain presented a project involving a fish pond that relies on a sensor to measure water acidity and temperature to help create the right conditions for fish and prevent them from dying.

The winner sent a message to the youngsters saying, “Success and achieve what I have achieved” and expressed his joy at the attention the team has received since the coronation.

Hatem Suleiman, head of the Tunisian Society for the Future of Science and Technology, also said that overcoming the fear of the beginning is considered one of the most difficult moments of the competition, noting that the team quickly regains confidence and turns pressure into motivation.

Suleiman added to Al Jazeera that experience is the capital of the Tunisian team and that it has allowed it to achieve a “strong rebound” and reach the top ranks, stressing that the association’s role is not limited to discovering talent, but goes beyond developing and guiding them.

Suleiman believed that the real achievement “is not only in the number of medals, but in the ability of these young people to learn, correct their mistakes and understand what they are doing”, noting that a real coach is someone who helps a child or young person to bring out the best in themselves.

As for one of the winners, Taha Kalul, she took second place with her sign language translation app project, which aims to facilitate communication for people who have hearing or speech difficulties. He told Al Jazeera that the idea for the project came from his desire to find a practical solution to the problem of communication.

On the other hand, participant Iris Bousma confirmed that robotics is not a field reserved only for boys, noting that girls participated and achieved several medals. Iris presented a project based on a smart application that helps users organize their medications and warns them about the possibility of interaction between them with the help of artificial intelligence.
