Wolverine is one of my all-time favorite Marvel characters, so I went into Marvel’s Wolverine with a lot of trepidation, especially after my experience with the recent Spider-Man 2 story. Portraying a character the size of Wolverine requires more than just bloody confrontations and annihilating enemies. Has Insomniac Games been able to deliver a mature, gory action experience that is crafted with great respect for Logan’s essence? Or did it repeat the same mistakes as the Spider-Man story?
“I’m not a hero, I’m Wolverine.”
The story of the game is an original story that is not copied from the comics. It tells the story of the beginning of the team of Wolverine and the X-Men, but this time they are not brought together by Professor X, as usual, but by Dr. Essex. The team of Wolverine, Mystique and Sabretooth is on a mission to save mutants from the clutches of the evil Trask. But the story turns from just a routine rescue adventure into a story full of exciting and fast-paced events.
As a player and fan of the Marvel Universe, I was very worried about the game’s story, especially after experiencing the story of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But the game surprised me with a wonderful and pleasant original story, because it presented the character of Wolverine as it should be, a reliable “low” Canadian man who always cares for those around him, his feelings behind the mask of Wolverine. I liked how the game didn’t address the bad writing that made Logan out to be just a nerd, but the other way around. The game gave Logan dramatic depth and maturity in his writing, showing his sadness, inner conflict and loyalty to his friends, presenting us with an integrated character that combines anger and compassion. This is how the book dealt with the rest of the characters, not with the same depth of course, but it gave characters like Mystique, Dr Essex and Jean Gray their due and gave each character their own presence and influence in the story. On the other hand, the villain of the story also had a part in the story, as you feel his presence and presence in all the events of the game, and this is what I am excited about facing him.
All of this is supported by the wonderful voice acting for all the characters, especially Wolverine and Dr. Essex, and it’s this that gives the well-written dialogue more weight and makes them very lively and enjoyable. As for the cinematography, the game offers a high level of cinematography, with shots that increase the pace of enthusiasm and take you between moments of violent action and dramatic moments so that you feel the events of the story in all its details. .
“I’ve never used my claws against anyone who wasn’t trying to kill me.”

Wolverine is one of the best superhero games I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot. His bloody fighting style and confrontation design was the best embodiment of the brilliance of bloody character fights like Wolverine. The fighting style of the game mainly focuses on brutal attack and direct integration in combat. It offers a combination of different moves and mechanics, giving the player a lot of freedom to innovate and diversify between combos and bloody finishers, while using the ability to quickly refresh to fight without hesitation in a risky offensive style. The game expands on this system with advanced combat mechanics, including Combo Enders, the Impaling Strike technique that allows you to pin down enemies and restore health, and sophisticated Parry that relies on the precise timing of an enemy attack. The game challenges you to attack non-stop to fill up Wolverine’s Rage Meter, which is divided into three levels. Non-stop combat triggers Berserker Frenzy mode when the bar is completely filled to make strikes faster and more deadly, allowing you to instantly finish off enemies with the most brutal moves. Or use the bar to activate a regeneration ability to save yourself from death and keep fighting. In addition to direct action, the game offers a stealth option, which I often used just to reduce the number of enemies.
The game also offers an extensive skill tree that allows you to unlock additional strikes and moves to diversify your fighting style. In addition to regular skills, the menu allows you to unlock special techniques called Special Techniques, which are high damage skills, each consisting of 3 levels that can be upgraded as you progress through the game and increase your level. This technique requires charging during continuous combat, or automatically converting the remainder of the Rage Meter after each combat. In addition to the skill tree, the game offers a simple RPG element called adaptations. These are genetic mutations integrated into the DNA to develop Wolverine’s fighting skills. You can activate these genes and increase the level of adaptation using AP points, which you get in two ways related to the character and the exploration of the world. The first is to search for bottles scattered around the environment to unlock folded memories from his past, and the second is to enter the Nightmare Doors and complete the challenges in front of them, as higher ranks in them give you more AP points to power up your genetic mutations. This great variety is what gave the game a wonderful depth that completely breaks the routine of repetition and turns each combat encounter into a renewed experience throughout your journey.

What enhances the fun of the battles is the excellent design of confrontations, a good variety of enemies and interesting boss battles. As the game offers some very enjoyable epic boss battles, it requires understanding the mechanics of dodging, dodging, exploiting glitches and mastering special technique strikes, as each boss was different from the previous one in every way. This is complemented by a great variety of enemies that force you to constantly change your strategy and push you to constantly move and use all the mechanics that the game has to offer. All these factors combine to provide an integrated and enjoyable combat experience from start to finish, making the combat system undoubtedly the strongest and most distinctive strength of the game.
In addition to the combat, the game offers interesting cinematic moments such as motorcycle chases or moving on the roofs of buildings and many other moments that were always enjoyable and increased my immersion in the story and the game as a whole, because it cleverly breaks the routine of direct confrontation and gives the story a nice, addictive cinematic rhythm.
As for the side content, it was very simple as it consisted of collecting glass bottles, completing AP scoring challenges, or designing new suits to increase your health bar. I wish the game had better side content, but it was only focused on the main game content.
“Would you prefer tight yellow clothes?”

The title I used in this paragraph is a famous sarcastic line that Cyclops directed at Logan in response to complaints about the team’s clothing, but I don’t think he can destroy the beautiful design of his costume this time, which I consider one of the best Wolverine costumes, and this extends to the visual aspect of the game as a whole. The game offers a visually stunning level of graphics that reflect the accuracy of detail, from the details of Wolverine’s suit, skin and hair, to the visual effects of combat and the instant tearing of muscles and clothing upon damage. The beauty of this visual scene is enhanced by the dazzling variety of environments, in addition to the excellent and refined designs of all the main characters such as Jean Grey, Mystique and others, in addition to the distinct visual variety in enemy forms. All these elements are integrated with advanced lighting and excellent visual effects, which turn the game into a cinematic picture that shows the true power of current generation hardware. As for the music, it is also on the same level, as the game provides a great audio experience that enhances the general atmosphere of each moment. The soundtrack moves seamlessly between soothing melodies during dramatic scenes and fast-paced beats that blast out at the start of battles to build excitement and tension.
The technical aspect of the game was also great as I tried it on a regular PS5 and didn’t encounter any technical issues. The game ran smoothly and completely stable, even in the most crowded battles with visual effects and enemies, with no noticeable drops in frame rate or software errors that marred the experience.
