(CNN) – The president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) noted… Gianni InfantinoThe team of “Pharaohs” won the 2026 World Cup by going to the round of 16, for the first time in the history of Egyptian football.
The Pharaohs reached the last eight at the World Cup, which took place between June and July in America, Canada and Mexico, before being eliminated by Argentina.
On Monday, Infantino posted video clips of Mohamed Salah’s teammates taking part in the world’s biggest championship on his Instagram.
Gianni Infantino commented: “The Egyptian national team made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, with Egypt’s first qualification after the group stage and their first victory at a World Cup tournament, a truly special tournament for the Pharaohs.”
He added: “With their excellent performances, the Egyptian national team brought great joy to their enthusiastic fans, who filled every stadium where their team played. We look forward to seeing them again on the world stage soon.”
The Egyptian Football Association commented on the FIFA president’s praise for the Pharaohs team, writing on its Facebook platform: “Infantino’s celebration of the Egyptian national team and its fans reflects the magnitude of the impact that Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup has had, not only on a technical level, but also through the visible spirit of the stadiums.”
He continued: “This international accolade confirms that Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup will remain a landmark in the history of Egyptian football, after the team’s unprecedented achievements, amid development ambitions and a return to international fora in the future.
Egypt’s football association earlier reaffirmed its support for Gianni Infantino after he was widely criticized for offering to sell stakes in the men’s and women’s World Cups to investors before backing out.
Infantino previously sent a message of thanks to Salah’s teammates after the World Cup, saying at the time: “The memories made this summer will stay with Egyptian football fans for a long time.”
