The crisis of the song “Teb I Love You”, which brought together the composer Amr Mustafa and the artist of the festival Hamo El Morshed, has entered a new and official phase, after the former issued a statement and a stern legal warning, threatening to refer to the Judicial and Economic Court, at a time when Hamo El Morshed’s team announced that it would not remove the work.
The crisis started after the release of the song and its presentation behind the scenes in the program “Red Bull Music Salon”, before it was fully published on Hamo Al Morshed’s social media and on his official YouTube channel.
Crucial legal warning from Amr Mostafa
Composer Amr Mustafa sent an official statement to distribution and digital revenue management companies (such as Believe Music, WKS and Karizma) and all global and local digital platforms (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Meta, TikTok) warning against any illegal exploitation.
Mustafa, as the creator and sole owner (composer’s share) and (Master Recording) co-owner of all musical copyrights for his musical work “Teb BI Love You (Because I Love You),” internationally registered code (SACEM code: 112023767867), declares that he has not given any permission or authorization to any person. The aforementioned distribution companies or Hamo Al Morshedy to publish, distribute, use or collect royalties related to Melody.
In his statement, Mustafa relied on the Egyptian Intellectual Property Law no. 82 The 2002 Regulations (sections 143, 147, 149, 181) consider any submission or exploitation of a work without express written consent to be considered “gross assault and criminal trespass”.
Amr Mustafa called on the companies and platforms to completely remove and immediately freeze all financial payments until the dispute is resolved, treating the statement as an official warning that paves the way for preventive, civil and criminal measures before the Economic Court.
The position of Hamo al-Murshid
On the other hand, and in the first reaction, Hamo Al-Morshedi confirmed his commitment not to remove the song “Teb I Love You” from his personal pages and platforms and refused to respond to pressure to remove it immediately.
In exclusive statements given to “Masrawy”, a source close to Al-Morshedi explained that the crisis arose without any reason, indicating that the composer Amr Mustafa asked “Hamu Al-Morshedi”, his lyricist, to refuse to perform the words in public for the French distribution society.
The source indicated that this agreement was reached in advance via a group call involving multiple parties involved in the song’s creation, which makes it surprising and without prior understanding to support its takedown and takedown requests.
