Lautaro: Yes, Barcelona negotiated with me… but I preferred to stay at Inter Cura

The Argentinian striker speaks for the first time about the interest of “Barcelona”.

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has revealed the truth about his move to Barcelona in the final days of the transfer market, insisting the Catalan club’s interest in his services was real but he preferred to stay at the Nerazzurri.

Speculation over Lautaro’s future has been rife in the transfer market of late after Atletico Madrid ruled out a move for their star player Julian Alvarez to Barcelona, despite the Catalan club’s interest and the player’s insistence on finding a way out to complete the deal.

As the possibility of signing Alvarez became more difficult, Lautaro Martinez’s name emerged as one of the potential alternatives to support Barcelona’s attack, at a time when Inter Milan rejected an official offer from the Catalan club and also closed the door to opening negotiations for the striker’s sale.

But Lautaro broke his silence while attending the Gala Calcio concert in Italy and admitted for the first time that the news of Barcelona’s interest was true.

In statements to the Sky Italia network, as reported by Catalan newspaper Sport, he said: “Receiving offers like this is always a source of pride because I am constantly working to stay at the highest level of football. The news was right.”

Although he admitted there was interest from Barcelona, the Inter Milan captain emphasized his desire to stay at the club, stressing that the club was and is his first choice.

He added: “I have always said that I want to stay at Inter, with my teammates and our fans. As long as they want me, I will stay at this club.”

29-year-old Lautaro Martinez has a contract with the Nerazzurri until 2029.

Let’s remind that “Barcelona” bought Brazilian Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal this season.

Lautaro also hinted at the volatile nature of football, without completely ruling out future changes, before reiterating his association with Inter.

He explained: “We all know that in the world of football, when you are no longer useful, you are asked to leave. Playing for Inter is a source of pride for me and I am happy here. I want to stay and continue to develop every day and fight for big titles with Inter.”
