Editorial Policy

House Haven Guide exists to give homeowners and renters practical, honest home advice. This page describes how we plan, write, edit and update the articles you read here.
Who writes for us
Every article is written by a working professional in the field — licensed contractors, working interior designers, Master Gardeners and experienced DIYers. Each author has a bio page listing their experience and areas of expertise.
How we plan articles
Story ideas come from three places: reader questions submitted via the contact form, gaps our editors notice in existing home content, and the practical problems our contributors run into in their day-to-day work. We plan quarterly, with room for timely additions.
Editing process
Every draft is reviewed by at least one editor for accuracy, clarity, tone and safety. When a piece covers technical topics (electrical, plumbing, structural), the editor confirms the guidance aligns with current best practice and applicable code.
Updates and corrections
We revisit evergreen guides on a regular schedule and update them when prices, products or best practices change. Every article displays a Last Updated date. When we make a substantive correction to a published article, we note it in an editor's note at the bottom of the piece.
Independence
Editorial content is independent from advertising and sponsorship. No advertiser or brand may review, edit or influence an article before publication. If we ever accept a sponsored placement, it is clearly labeled as such and separated from editorial content.
Reader feedback
If you spot an error, disagree with advice, or want to share what worked for you, please reach us via the contact page. Reader feedback shapes our updates.
