Fact-Checking Policy

Last updated June 1, 2026

House Haven Guide covers topics where wrong information can waste money or cause real harm. Our fact-checking policy is designed to keep that from happening.

What we verify

Every article is reviewed by an editor for factual accuracy before publication. We verify quoted prices, product specifications, safety recommendations, technical claims and any statistics cited from an external source. When advice involves electrical, plumbing, gas or structural work, we cross-check it against current best practice and applicable code.

Sources

We prefer primary sources: manufacturer documentation, cooperative extension research, government agencies (ENERGY STAR, EPA, USDA, DOE), national trade associations, and peer-reviewed research. When we cite an external source, we credit the publisher and, where relevant, link out.

Corrections

If a reader identifies a factual error, we investigate promptly. When we confirm an error, we correct the article and add an editor's note at the bottom describing the change. We do not silently rewrite published pieces.
