Algeria today (Saturday) closed the curtain on the tragedy of 10-year-old Ayoub, after his body was recovered from a dry artesian well in the village of Rukna in El Bayad state, southwest of the country, after falling 4 days ago.
A tragic end
The Algerian Civil Defense announced that the child had been found and recovered, and confirmed in a statement that rescue teams, in coordination with local authorities and various bodies and private individuals, used all human and material possibilities to make the search and rescue operation successful.
On Wednesday, Ayub fell into a dry well, about 80 meters deep, with a diameter of no more than 40 centimeters, making operations to reach and extract him extremely difficult.
“Daddy, take me away.”
Mohammed Hadef, the child’s father, recounted the details of the first moments of the incident, explaining that his son fell into the well after stepping on a piece of weathered wood that covered his hole.
The father said that when he reached the spot where Ayoub fell, he called him and his voice was heard saying, “Dad, take me out,” before he started crying, adding that he tried to calm him down, “Don’t cry, the civil defense will come and take you out.”
Rescue operations continue
Civil protection teams began digging operations to reach the child, while their members continued to interact with him to check and reassure him, given the great difficulty caused by the depth of the well and its narrow diameter.
After 4 days of searching and digging, the authorities announced that Ayub had been found and his body recovered, and the rescue operations ended in a tragedy that shook the region.
