Yemen… Blasts in Taiz and Army Attack Camp in Al-Jawf

Yemeni government forces launched an attack on the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) in al-Labanat camp in al-Jawf province in northeastern Yemen, confirming the destruction of their members and capabilities, while Taiz witnessed explosions, while the head of the Presidential Command Council, Rashad al-Alim, threatened “Hoif”.

State television quoted a spokesman for Yemen’s armed forces as saying the government attack came in response to escalation and violations by the Houthis, noting that the forces had destroyed the group’s capabilities and elements in the al-Labnat camp.

An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that heavy explosions occurred in the city of Taiz, noting that the Ministry of Defense used qualitative capabilities that were recently introduced.

In a related context, al-Alimi said in statements published by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) on Saturday evening that “the miscalculations of the Houthis will open the door to an all-out collapse.” His statements came after government forces claimed control of Hayes district, south of Hodeidah governorate. Al-Alim said the Houthis would “endure the consequences” of what he called an “adventure”.

On Saturday, Yemeni government forces announced the recapture of Hais district from the control of the Houthi group. According to the Anadolu correspondent, Hayes covers three Yemeni governorates: al-Hudaydah and Taiz in the west of the country and Ibs in the center.

Amid violent clashes with the Houthis, government forces said early Saturday they had made ground progress on frontlines in the governorates of Taiz and Hodeida in the west of the country, noting that dozens of the group had been captured.

The developments coincided with continued Houthi attacks with ballistic missiles and drones, killing and wounding civilians in more than one district, according to government figures, while the group did not immediately comment on the developments.

The escalation has continued for days on several fronts in Yemen amid clashes as part of a series of counterattacks that have escalated since July 2026 and ended a state of relative calm on the front since a UN ceasefire in April 2022.

Since September 2014, the Houthis have controlled Yemen’s capital Sanaa and other cities, while the internationally recognized government and forces loyal to it control large areas in the south, east and west of the country.
