Yasser Ibrahim wrote a happy ending for his Al-Ahly side after leading them to a crucial 1-0 win over Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League competition on Thursday night.
At the end of the third round of the league for the 2026-2027 season, Al-Ahly’s match against Smouha was held at the Cairo Stadium.
Composition of Al-Ahli and Smuha
Al-Ahly entered the match with the following lineup: Mustafa Shubert – Ahmed Nabil Kuka – Amr El Ghazzari – Yasser Ibrahim – Mohamed Hani – Marwan Atiya – Ali Mahmoud – Ahmed Sayed Zizo – Ashraf Benchark – Sofian Benjedida – Taher Muhammad Taher.
The formation of Smuha was as follows: “Ahmed Mihoub – Abdel Rahman Amer – Mohamed Desouk – Mohamed Raghab – Hisham Hafez – Amr El-Sisi – Atjiko Samado – Samir Fikri – Khaled Al-Gandour – Mohamed Farooq – Fadi Farid.”
Al-Ahli took control early in the match, but without any threat to Smouha’s goal.
The match did not result in scoring opportunities for either team, with Smuha relying on a defensive formation.
Al-Ahli had their first chance in the 43rd minute after Taher Mohamed’s header hit the post and the Red Giants scored.
In the 45th minute, Ashraf Bencharki fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, but it went over the top of the Smuha goalkeeper and out of the area.
Al-Ahly’s pressure continued in the dying seconds of the first half as Zizou threw in and Bencharki met it with a powerful header, but the Smuha keeper made a brilliant save.
The events of the first half ended in a goalless draw between Al-Ahli and Smouha.
In the 58th minute, Al-Ahly counter-attacked after Taher Mohamed Taher passed to Zizou, who put it into the hands of Yohubi, the Smuha goalkeeper.
In the 69th minute, witnessing an Al-Ahly corner taken by Zizou, Yasser Ibrahim met it with a powerful header, but it went wide of Meihoub’s goal outside the box.
Al-Ahly tried a shot from Marwan Attia in the 75th minute, but it went wide of Ahmed Mayhoub’s goal and went off the field.
In the 83rd minute, Moncef sent a thumbs up that went past the Smouha defenders and reached Benjeda, but his ball went wide of the Smouha goal and out of the box, spoiling Al-Ahly’s scoring chance.
A killer goal in the 87th minute
The fateful moment came for Al-Ahly, who scored a fateful goal in the 87th minute through Yasser Ibrahim.
Yasser Ibrahim fired a rocket into the back of the net, breaking Smuha’s code, giving Al-Ahly a 1-0 lead.

With this result (1-0), Al-Ahly increases its score to 9 points and shares the first place in the league with Pyramids.
Al-Ahli defeated Sharqia Enpi (3-2) and Zed (2-0) in the first and second rounds of the local competition before winning 1-0 against Smouha.
While Smouha remain winless after losing to Al-Masri (0-1) and drawing 0-0 with Assiut Petroleum before falling to Al-Ahly (1-0).
