(CNN) — Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari on Friday responded to Iran’s “selective citation” of documents related to attacks targeting the country. QatarHe emphasized that the official record submitted by Doha to the UN documents the launch of Iranian missiles at civilian, commercial and residential areas and the resulting damage and injuries.
Al-Ansari said in an earlier blog post on his Twitter account on the X platform: “If the Iranian side wants to rely on official documents, we urge it to go back to the record it officially submitted to the UN, instead of selectively citing a security risk assessment prepared for operational purposes.”
He explained that two identical letters submitted by the State of Qatar to the United Nations on March 1, 2026, numbered (S/2026/110), documented the launch of Iranian missiles at civilian, commercial and residential areas, resulting in the injury and damage of 16 people.
He added that Qatar’s letter dated July 20 also documented additional attacks that left three people injured, including a child.
Al-Ansar noted that the document cited by the Iranian side is “a safety and security risk assessment prepared for the purposes of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference and not a comprehensive record of the facts or their legal assessment.”
He noted that the document itself recognizes the occurrence of direct attacks in the State of Qatar, including the attack that took place on March 18 and the targeted gas facilities in Ras Laffan, as well as the temporary closure of airspace and the impact on civilian life.
Al-Ansari said that “taking their numbers out of context is misleading,” stressing that “the success of the Qatari armed forces in intercepting Iranian missiles and drones does not diminish the seriousness of these attacks or absolve those who carried them out of responsibility.”
A spokesman for Qatar’s foreign ministry criticized the description of the attack on Ras Laffan facilities as “alleged”, noting that it was officially documented in Qatar’s letter to the UN no. (S/2026/207).
He emphasized that the Ras Laffan facilities represent “the capacity of the people of Qatar” and are an essential part of the global energy security system.
Al-Ansar stressed that Qatar “is not a party to this conflict and attacks on its lands and civilian infrastructure, endangering its population or destabilizing actions in the Strait of Hormuz cannot be justified as a legitimate response.”
He said these actions were “clear violations of international law, and no amount of selective quoting or interpretation will change their reality.”
At the end of the post, al-Ansar said: “Based on its firm position that dialogue and peaceful means remain the best way to resolve differences, Qatar will continue diplomatic efforts and tireless efforts aimed at de-escalation and strengthening security and stability in the region.”
