FBL-CHAMPION'S LEAGUE CAF-USM-AL HILAL

Roma continued their Italian league winning streak after turning the tables on visitors Atalanta with a goal to beat Kaiserslautern 2-1 in a clash that sets them up for the third round at the Stadio Olimpico this Saturday evening.

The first half was a debate between the two sides, before the confrontation at the start of the second half. Atalanta stunned the hosts to take the lead in the 47th minute after Charles De Kitillar showed individual skill to dribble past Mario Hermoso and cut back to Nikola Krstovic from the left flank. A minute later, Ivan Ndika and then Brian Cristante got into defensive confusion, and the rebound fell to Ederson, who fired an unanswered rocket into the net from 14 yards.

Roma continued to press hard in search of a comeback, capitalizing on a corner arsenal that increased to 14 throughout the match, until it smiled on them in the 90th minute when Hermoso rose freely to deliver a perfect pass, a powerful header into the net that leveled the score and put the match back on top.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Matias Sali capped a thrilling comeback for the Giallorossi with a special goal, after manipulating the defense down the right and slotting inside Davide Zappacosta, before firing a powerful shot past goalkeeper Marco Karnezek and near the post to Olimpico’s delight.

With this fateful victory, Roma maintained their excellent start, claiming their third consecutive victory, to go top with 9 points and on goal difference over second-placed Inter, while Atalanta’s balance froze in seventh place with 6 points and suffered their first defeat of the season.

The Capital Wolves now turn their attention to the continental battlefield. The team prepare to open their Champions League campaign against Fenerbahce in Turkey next Thursday, before returning to domestic competition on September 14 to face Torino before the summit clash against Inter on September 19.
